i own this model & it has to be the worst nuker ever. it stains inside terribly, doesn't have minute plus like my old one or very many preprogrammed buttons at all. when u make something like popcorn, the smell lasts for weeks. the clock goes out at least once a mo. i'm ordering a sanyo 2day.... anyone want a emerson REAL cheap??? seriously, i'll keep it as a backup i guess. wouldn't give this one to my worst enemy.



IMHO....spend a few bucks more & get one w/ everything u want & need on it. also it pays {pun intended} to do your research b4 buying.

I did a lot of research before buying a microwave, then went to Sears and Best Buy, and neither one had the models in stock that I wanted. I needed a small (1 cubic ft or smaller) countertop microwave to replace the Panasonic 800 watt one we'd had since 1994, which just died (Feb. 2010). Unfortunately, the current small Panasonic model can only be purchased online, has a dial that I wanted to see before buying, and costs c. $120 plus shipping ...



For some reason, Consumer Reports doesn't rate small countertop microwaves; not sure why, since every one I looked up online had 1/4 to 1/3 of reviews about how they broke after a few months. After all this research, I promised myself I'd write in about whatever I chose, because I was getting really discouraged (I also had terrible luck replacing our toaster oven this year, so I'm really down on small appliances right now!).



Meanwhile our family really needs a new microwave. So I went to Target and looked at their options. I liked this Emerson because a lot of the smaller MWs are flimsy and move around on the shelf when you open or shut the door, but this one is sturdier. (Also, an Emerson larger model, not this one, had gotten a good review in Consumer Reports last year.)



So far all I've done is made water for tea to test the MW. My kids and I mostly heat milk or heat up frozen food, maybe a few times a week; I don't cook in it. I like the fact that you can just press the "2" and the MW cooks on high for 2 minutes without pressing any other buttons. Also like the 30-second button. We won't be using the other buttons, as I always find it's better to microwave by the package directions or by testing for doneness.



Another thing I like is that the MW is very quiet when it's on -- compared to my old 1994 MW, which didn't rattle, but made a loud humming noise and beeped too many times when it was done. I wish it were white rather than stainless steel, which smudges easily, especially when used by kids. (It's also small enough to fit the microwave cart we have, and I like the guard sticking out in the back that keeps the MW from touching the wall behind it.)



I'll write again if/when it breaks down ... just wanted to give my first impressions while I had the time. (And I'm not giving it a 5 because it's only a day old and hasn't proven itself yet!)

So i just got this microwave oven today from target, i come home set it up, and when i looked in the cooking cavity i see this piece of cardboard that looks like if its only meant to be there for packaging. I pulled it out and then i realize it was not a piece of cardboard but instead a mica paper shield thing, which the microwave needs to operate properly.



I MEAN COME ON! i know they are trying to save some money so that they can push out a very low cost product, BUT DONT LET CRITICAL COMPONENTS APPEAR AS IF THEY ARE PART OF THE PACKAGING cause someone might make the mistake i did more often than not. Other companies add a screw to secure this wave guard shield i have learned. SO right now i am annoyed because of their lack of instructions i might have ruined this microwave.



And sure it was cheap, but i am not going to be tossing over 70 bucks just for the heck of it, mean even taking this one back to the store seems like such a choir right now UGH!.

I bought this microwave about a year ago and that is how long it lasted. It was didn't always heat evenly. The microwave was a noise as you can get. It made a loud noise when you opened, closed, while heating and when finish heating food. If you are looking for a microwave to reheat food and don't care that this won't last more than a year then this microwave is serviceable. Otherwise spend the extra money and get a better microwave so you don't have to repurchase one every year.

I bought this good quality, easy to use, name brand microwave to replace a similar one from another manufacturer that finally died after more than a decade of daily use. Will this one last that long? I'd say, as long as the keypad survives (which is doubtful with daily use of the 30 second feature) this versatile, easy to program microwave will continue to be the quick little work-horse of the kitchen. Well written, easy to understand bi-lingual instructions are included and I was pleasantly surprised to get this much needed replacement delivered to me the following day without requesting (or paying for or being charged) any kind of special speedy delivery. This microwave works great. The only problem is the popcorn button, you have to press it multiple times according to the weight of the bag. The problem I have is if I press it twice, many unpopped kernels remain in the bag. If I press the button three times the popcorn will burn. So I have to keep an eye and ear on the popcorn when I make it.

This is a very attractive microwave... That is the positive thing



Other than that:



1) Not user friendly

2) Turntable does not stay in place

3) When cooking with an even number (30 sec. 1 min) the table does not "face" your item like other brands do

4) Helen Keller could hear this microwave when your cooking has completed. it beeps five times, five times, five times, five times, five times...

5) Cooks unevenly



Spend the extra money and get a Sharp or a Panasonic

This was just a waste of time.

If you really want this item, just go to a target store.

Just like some other customers I was lured by this microwave's sleek looks and fetching red color. (I should mention I did not purchase this from amazon.) It did a beautiful job of cooking and reheating all through the summer and fall. Now here it is, winter, and while innocently preparing some popcorn the oven buzzed loudly and sparked violently. Upon seeing blue flashes, I jumped to stop it and unplug - I was afraid it would cause a fire!



If you're looking for lovely looks, potential danger and throwing away some of that extra pesky money you've got lying around, go for it. But if you're looking for quality and longevity, this ain't it, pal.

I haven't experienced any uneven heating issues the others are commenting about but this microwave is new that may change over time. But seriously for $60 I don't care if I have to replace it annually. It costs practically nothing. While it's true the oven doesn't look as professional as a nice $300 brushed steel deluxe with magnetic latches, I actually prefer this oven as it fits nicely in my small kitchen and the red color really cheers things up in a room that has an excess of beige and white everywhere. As others point out the beep sound it makes is indeed quite loud and the door does close too loud unless you make a special effort to close it gently. That being said I'm happy with it. I'm glad to at least have the option to own a microwave for next to nothing and still have it look nice!

I spent a little more for what I thought would be a better microwave, but I'll stick with the cheapies from now on--they last longer. Well, I must say I made this order(overseas) with Amazon, for family living overseas...and within 24hrs this was delivered-wow...great!! The first one I received didn't work. I sent in a quiry received a reply and got postage to send it back UPS. I did and within days the replacement came. It works fine. I like the controls on it. It has a lot of options and quick cooks. It's the right size for my apartment too since it's 900 volts it's doesn't overload the circuits.

The other reviewer is incorrect about the microwave's (in)ability for specific cooking time input. All you have to do is hit the Power Level button first, then the numbers will allow you to input any time you want, 8 seconds or 45 seconds or whatever. I have the same 8992sb that the other reviewer has.



I've had the microwave for 3 months, and for the most part it has worked very well and is very easy to operate. One minor flaw is that the Popcorn button, when pressed once, defaults to settings for a 1.75 oz bag of microwave popcorn. This is the "mini" bag size that isn't very common. Most microwave popcorn comes in a slightly larger bag, and to set for that you have to push the Popcorn button TWICE to get to the correct setting. This is counter-intuitive, as the majority of microwave popcorn on store shelves is the larger size. It took me a few bags of popcorn to figure that out, and I had a LOT of unpopped kernels until I looked back at the manual and then at my box of popcorn to see that the microwave doesn't default to the most common size. But that's minor.



The major flaw with this microwave is WHERE IS THE KITCHEN TIMER? Most new microwaves nowadays have a kitchen timer. The store where I bought this microwave lists that it has a kitchen timer. This site lists that it has a kitchen timer, and this microwave has the exact same button display as mine. The owner's manual does NOT list a kitchen timer. I have pressed every button on the thing, and there is no timer. I tried adjusting the power level from 1 - 10. Power level 1 still turns on power, and there is no Power Level 0.



I used the kitchen timer on my old microwave all the time. When I bought this one, multiple sources listed it having a kitchen timer. But there is no timer. If I had known before I bought this microwave that it had no timer function, I would NOT have bought it.
