 "Never received" 2009-11-21
By Jenny Waller
I would love to give a review for this product, however, it was never received.

I bought this for my daughter who went away to college this fall, and her dorm did not have a microwave, so fine, send her one.

It never arrived. I have not received a refund, she has not received her microwave, not happy.

 "Not a good product." 2009-06-06
By T. (Washington Metropolitan Area)
This microwave is very loud and it vibrated my kitchen counter, including my built-in gas range. I do not recommend this item. It was shipped and some of the styro packing was broken when I unpacked the box.

 "Good basic microwave" 2010-01-30
By Suzi Crazy (PA)
This is a good basic microwave. I used to have the same model but an older version which lasted so long that I don't remember when I bought it... 10 years? anyway, it is the basic same design as my old one but I have to say the buttons and commands got smaller and not as clear to read because of the panel color combination between the background and the button labels. I guess my eyesight went down too, but still. The tray rotation seems to be a bit noisier than with the old one too. I basically use the quick 1-minute button only to heat up cups of water or nuke left-overs. I never use any other settings so this is good for me.

I hope this one will last as long as the other one, no reason why since it is probably the same basic stuff as my old one, in newer and lighter body.

 "Somewhat disappointing --" 2010-01-07
By JNagarya (Boston, MA)
I had a Sharp Carousel II for twenty years almost to the day -- bought 1/10/90; died 12/20ish/09. It was the smallest of the Sharp microwaves available then, and this is the smallest available now. While on one hand this model ups the wattage from 600 to 800, on the other the internal vertical measurement is less by almost an inch. I expected the same internal dimensions (if not more, given the increase in wattage); and can't fathom why they would be reduced. What that shrinkage does it make it a bit more difficult to buy accessories for it: the internal vertical measurement is 7 inches; I've already had to rule out a rice cooker I had in mind.

For comparison, the internal measurements of the Carousel II were:

11 3/4" Wide, 7 3/4" High, 12 3/4" Deep.

The internal dimensions of this oven (note caveats):

12 1/2" Wide, 8" High*, 13 1/4 Deep.

_____

*Measuring from top to bottom at the front edge, and accounting for the turntable system, it is 7" High. Inside, though, it has a "depression" in its "ceiling," so may be near 8" there; but then one must negotiate how to get a 7" High accessory past the narrower opening.

In addition, though this oven is 13 1/4" deep -- an inch deeper than the Carousel II -- it has a turntable system diameter of 10 3/4". The Carousel had a turntable system of some 11 7/8".

_____

The Carousel II cooked fine, and that it lasted twenty years with daily use is impressive. This one also cooks well, and I hope it lasts twenty years. But I also wonder if I should buy a second microwave one size larger.

"works good and guiet so far" 2010-01-07
By Chloe Yoon (NYC)
I have had this item for a month, it's too early to review. So far don't have much complain. I basically use only 2 functions, heating beverage and cook sweetpotato.

cons: With my previous one, it only took 7 minutes for 2 potatos but it takes almost twice time to cook the same amount of sweetpotato.

pro: it has quiet sound (button, operating). love that.

 "Nearly perfect" 2009-12-11
By D. Jewell (Indiana, USA)
I reserved a star simply for the one thing that I found wrong with this otherwise perfect microwave...the turntable noise. When we first got it, I nearly packaged it back up because the turntable was incredibly loud. Now that we have used it a few months, the noise is gone. Went from a giant microwave to this smaller version and don't know why we had a big one in the first place! I like the fact that the light on this microwave comes on only when cooking. I also really like the small size, the light weight of the machine, and the sleek design. I purchased this microwave based on other reader's reviews and the fact that there is a bank of about 30 at work. These little guys at work take a serious beating and, other than a few of the turntables not working, heat very well. The ones at work are a few years old now, too.

I do not regret this decision in the least!!

"Can't do without the minute button..." 2009-12-11
By Rose P. (USA)
Yea, I got my Sharp back. I had a Sharp for 5 yrs. and decided to get a new one when I discovered that the plug seemed to be corroding. It still worked fine, but to be safe I got a Hamilton Beach at Walmart...wow, what a piece of junk which I returned. So happy with my new Sharp. 800 watts works well for me, it heats evenly and what I have always loved about the Sharps is the minute button which starts automatically when pressed and can be pressed multiple times. I use that function constantly...so easy. I really like the smaller size, too. If this lasts 5 years I will be happy. Am giving it 4 stars cause the display is not lighted, but still am happy with this purchase. PS - another good thing - the popcorn button, which if pressed once starts automatically, is just right for heating a mug for coffee or tea (2:35)....press once and it's done!

 "It does it's job." 2010-01-12
By H. Choi (New York, NY)
I don't like it's touch-screen look pads, because it's harder to press.

Also when it's little dark, it's really hard to distinguish buttons.

Other than that, it does it's job.

Not a bad microwave for 70 bucks including taxes.

ps. black color gives little bit of edge in my kitchen. Personally it's better than white plan microwave.

By C. Zodda (New York, New York United States)
I LOVE my Sharp Microwave oven! The 800 watts is just the right amount of power and the compact size is perfect for the space I have available to me. Frozen dinners, reheating meals ..... whatever you need to do it works like a charm! I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to anyone!

 "works great" 2009-12-12
By K. Burnside Jr. (Wayne, ME USA)
Works great. We choose this for its compact size. We have had good luck with sharp procucts. We use multible micro waves in the kitchen of our country store. This is in constant use all day 7 days a week. The only improvement would be to make the start button lable larger and separate from the other buttons. Searching for the start during a fast paced task can be frustrating. Our other sharp model has a better button set up. In normal home use this might not be an issue.

 "peice a crap" 2009-12-09
By Roberta Restaino
I was so dissapointed with this microwave, looks nice, works like junk. The keypad is very dark at night, so you have to turn all the kitchen lights on to see it,, the turntable makes a scratching sound now, I've only had it a month. There's no light inside when you open the door, so you can't really see what's cooked or not..

I would not recommend this to my worst enemy..

 "IT'S SMALL...BUT A GOOD MICROWAVE!" 2009-11-14
By C. Arnavat III (ST. LOUIS, MO)
Hi, My old microwave went off and had about 10 years of service with an every day ware, so that was good anyway. I bought this one, just to get by until we move to Miami FL on April next year 2010. A friend of mine, will buy it from me plus most of my furniture.

This one is OK for what we need to warm up so far. The one we had before was bigger and had more power too, but I will buy a good one when I get to Miami next time

I recommed the Sharp Products because of the famous life and good reputation the products have. So that's it!

We like it very much, so far is doing a great job!

 "Great product for price." 2009-10-26

This is the most standard and basic microwave you can find out there. The features are very basic but are great for the price. A nice and convenient item you can put almost anywhere. Great for offices or for dorm rooms.

 "Sharp microwave" 2009-10-23
By misscall (TN, USA)
I ordered this microwave for overnight delivery, and it was here the next morning! The unit does a good job, although it is a little noisy. Also, the light does not stay on when the door is opened. My first unit was a Sharp, which lasted for 8 or 9 years. Then I had a GE which only lasted for 18 months. Hopefully this one will last as long as the first one.

 "not what they said" 2009-09-23
By lily pad (United States)
I read the review for the Sharp and a few said that the light did not stay on when the door opened. I called the Sharp company, and they say it did, lights stay on as soon as the door is opened, on and after. That was a blatant lie. The light is on when you push on only. When you close the door, it closes with a loud "bam", no matter when pushed gently or just closed, so I just leave it open til I need to use it again. That crowds the counter space. The see-through window is awkward to see through, probably design fault. I would not recommend buying this particulr model.

"Three Of Us Use This Every Day With Great Results" 2009-08-29
By carol irvin (United States)
I used to have a huge microwave which worked fine but when it finally died on me, I went to this sleeker, compact model. We've had it for four years now. We use it for everything: baking potatoes, cooking corn on the cob, making popcorn, boiling pasta, heating lean cuisines, melting cheese, thawing frozen bread and so forth. It is still going strong and I am buying more cooking equipment which one can use to cook in the microwave. I now have a pasta boiler for the microwave and it works great in this oven. We use the oven every single day and I would buy another in a flash if this broke. I got this for under fifty bucks at my warehouse club so I have gotten every penny out of my purchase.

"The Sharp R-230KK 800 Watt Microwave Oven" 2009-11-30
By Jerome C. Levenstein (Coral Gables, Fla.)
I purchased this microwave for my son who is now away from home attending college, because of my past experiences with Sharp's other products, which have always been positive. My son reports that he couldn't be more plesed with this compact oven's performance. I was also quite satisfied with the R-230KK's price, and the speed with which it was shipped, and delivered.

"BUYER BEWARE - Worked for 11 months then quit" 2009-11-24
By FranVf (Western NC, United States)
I bought this microwave in Jan 2009. It worked fine for 11 months then quit. It gave no notice of any issues, just suddenly developed a sharp buzzing rattle in the engine and stopped heating the food. From the other reviews, this is an issue with this model, so I would not suggest buying it.

 "Perfect for the office!" 2009-11-20
By A.Miller (Los Angeles)
I recently moved into an office and needed a small microwave to reheat my meals and cook popcorn. Needless to say this product suits my needs completely!

Besides doing the standard reheating of my lunch that I bring, it cooks popcorn perfectly with the short cut button (one of BIGGEST pet peeves is the burned popcorn due to inaccurate popcorn settings!)

Conclusion: If you are looking for a great microwave for your dorm room or office, this is a great product, but if you want it for more heavy duty cooking for your home, then I'd probably look for something that's a little bigger and powerful

"Stopped working after one year" 2009-11-18
By A. Dickson (International Falls, Minnesota United States)
I bought this microwave exactly one year ago. Two days ago it started making this horrible loud sound and does not cook food anymore. I have always taken good care of it, so I can't see any reason for this problem. It was not the most expensive microwave, but it wasn't cheap either! I would expect it last longer than one year!

Customer Buzz
 "flimsy door, sensitive latch" 2009-11-10
By The Pitcairns (Pennsylvania)
I originally looked at the white version of this model, and quite a few of the reviews said that their microwave arrived and would not function. I decided to take my chances and get a black one. When it arrived I was afraid I had gambled and lost, because it would accept a cooking time but we could never get it to start. Today I discovered that if you make sure the top and bottom latches are locked, and then press down on the door so that it is lined up with the body exactly, it will start.

I'm sure that the shielding is sufficient so that when the door is fully latched, the radiation is kept to a minimum, even if the plastic components allow for a little bit of give in the up and down direction. The motor of ours doesn't seem especially noisy, and for us it is the perfect balance of a small exterior and a sufficiently large interior. Once I get used to the ritual necessary for starting it, I believe I'll be quite happy with it.
