Have had the unit for less than two days. It lights up, spins but does not heat.
Would NOT recommend anyone purchase this microwave.

It lasted 2 years and 1 month and whatever it is that heats/cooks the food has quit. The lights, the buttons, the turntable all work it just doesn't heat. I've only owned 1 other microwave prior to this which lasted almost 15 years. After reading all the other reviews here, with few exceptions, it is evident that this microwave is disposable. My turntable also made noises as it went around. I'm very disappointed. Time to shop for a new one and I'm thinking price will be the determining factor. Companies just don't make products that are meant to last anymore.

Well... let's say I was woken up last night at 1:30 AM to the sounds of the microwave operating itself. Earlier in the week, the unit turned itself on and also beeped randomly. The display was showing unusual codes as well. After reading some other online reviews for GE microwaves, some that included fire, I would say that you should NOT buy this microwave and would go on to say to avaoid all GE microwaves.
I would give this zero stars if I could.

This GE counter top microwave has been grossly overrated by every single one of the other reviewers here. I just took the third, and believe me, it will be the last, one back to the store today. I bought the first one a little over a month ago; it lasted one week and simply stopped working. I took its replacement, which the store was kind enough to give me, back the same day. It lasted three days. It constantly blew out my fusses and sounded like a tractor with major mechanical problems as the table turned on its separate motor. The store gave me another and it lasted until last night. It sputtered, sparked, popped and gave up the ghost. (No, I did not have metal in it...I was warming water in a pure glass cup designated microwave safe.
Now I do not and did not give this hunk of misbegotten metal, glass and plastic a very hard workout. We are talking heating water for tea, warming up some pizza which I probably should have thrown out, and warming up some soup from time to time.
The machine sounded terrible and I could actually detect a burning wire smell in the air. I did not feel it was safe in the house.
I am not sure where this thing was made; actually I am not sure WHY this thing was made, but who ever put it together did one lousy job. I have normally been happy with G.E. products, but if this is the type of stuff they are turning out, I can see why our factories are in trouble in this country. As one review put it, this was a complete hunk of junk. Like yet another reviewer here, it takes my friend and I well over an hour to drive to town over some pretty horrible roads. I do not need crap like this in my life.
One star is far too many stars to give this product. SHAME ON YOU G.E.

I had a friend who worked for GE as a manager and he told me that in their washers they'd gladly ditch a part that might make it last longer if it cost a nickel. I guess I should have taken that message to heart.
We bought this microwave three months ago. Were a little hasty about it because our Samsung had died and we needed a replacement quickly. Well what an awful mistake to buy this GE.
First, it looks okay, but looks don't matter if it dies on you after only 180 days. But here's my list o' complaints:
-- It frequently made the circuit breaker flip. We've never had that problem before we got this GE product, and in fact it did it again when it died.
-- The popcorn feature was off. We had to fool around and find out what the actual time was.
-- The little feet on the bottom were cheap and left black marks on the counter top.
-- It's loud and vibrates.
-- And, of course, the warrant is awful.
I don't know what other brand we'll buy, but you can be sure it won't be a General Electric product.
