If you have problems with the regular turn handle can openers, this is the one for you. I bought this can opener because my fingers become stiff and painful trying to open cans with the regular turn handles. Short of buying an electric can opener, I ordered this one and am not disappointed. There is no pain and the ratchet style makes opening a breeze. Why don't they make this the standard for all can openers?

Within 3 weeks of receipt the crank mechanism failed; this is in a family of 2 who uses very little in the way of canned goods, preferring frozen. Amazon replaced it promptly(kudos!) but with the replacement certain cans require extra pressure on the locking lever.

I previously tried an Oxo Good Grip safety can opener, which rarely opened the cans all the way.



We've only had this one a month, but we open a minimum of 6 cans a day (we rescue cats and dogs). 180 cans in, and this opener has fully opened all 180.



For this opener you spread out the grips, move it onto the can perpendicularly (after a few cans you'll find the right angle to engage the opener onto the can), close the grips, and "pump" the handle (which ratchets). You can also hold your hands in a manner to just rotate the handle in a circle instead of ratcheting.



Then open the grips to disengage, close the grips to engage the jaws on the side of the opener which grip the lid and lift it off, then open the grips to drop it into the trash.



You are left with a smoothly opened can; you don't have to touch the lid; and the can opener does not penetrate the cans to open them. Do you realize how contaminated regular can openers get if you don't wash them after each use, which then spreads into each can you open?

We ordered this as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. It never arrived. I received an email on New Year's Eve directly from this distributor with the subject line "Your Ebay order". It said that my package had been returned to them. I asked politely that it be sent directly to the person it was intended for and that there was no reason for the package to have been returned. That was over two weeks ago. Earlier this week I sent a follow-up email asking that I be provided with a tracking number for the package. I still haven't had an email response, my account hasn't been updated, and the item hasn't been received. We bought this item based on the reviews, but are absolutely disgusted so far with Kitchenova's service. We've sent one more email through Amazon, but if there is no response by the end of this week we will seek a refund. If this is resolved satisfactorily, I will provide an update.

this opener replaced a battery powered egg-looking thing which broke in about two months. This opener is solidly made and is a cinch to operate. the ratcheting motion keeps from putting pressure on arthritic thumbs, fingers, or hands and makes quick work out of the can you're opening. the can is opened effortlessly, and most importantly, safely with no sharp edges.



I recommend it.
