"Does the job, but wish I would have gotten something else." 2010-02-14
By Michelle R (Minnesota)
My bin arrived chipped. I didn't exchange it, because I could hide the chip. I did make note of it though as why I possibly could have made a better decision. The very presence of the chip told me that I needed to live with it and perhaps get something else next time rather than get a new one and still not be pleased. I'll also mention that the red option, obviously, made the chip more obvious than had I selected the white.

The compost keeper does much of its job well. It is, as the description promises, odor-free. Not a whiff of any unpleasant smells, even when I was too slow to empty it. It also holds a surprising amount of scraps, and I think you'll be surprised on how several days of scraps and peels fit in comfortably. Granted, this is only a three person household, but I make a lot of vegetables and go through lots of eggs while baking. It's also pretty attractive, although the red looks a little like a miniature fire hydrant. Well, it does! Thankfully, as a dog owner, I find that cute.

One of the reasons I have regrets is that it's heavy and unwieldy and seems destined to be chipped a lot more. The handle is just useless and slips off if you look at it hard. For me, this keeper is the first step in vermicomposting -- composting with worms -- and so the scraps end up either being taken downstairs in the keeper or being transferred to another container, and the design and weight is just clunky.

I don't hate this product, and it does make my life better, but that doesn't mean that a metal one wouldn't have served me better!

"Works beautifully and looks great" 2010-02-12

Wow! Is this compost keeper ever effective. It looks great on my counter. A wonderful addition to the kitchen and it is "green", too.

 "compost keeper" 2010-02-11

I bought this as a gift and she absolutely loves it. I also have one and the only thing I dislike is that the gasget around the lid falls off and I lost mine.

"Compost Keeper - Too Small" 2010-02-06
By Ronnie Bincer (COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, US)
The container seems to keep the "stink" to a minimum but boy when you open it, you can sure smell the rotting stuff! My wife says it is too small, but I think it fits under the cabinets pretty well, but it needs to be "emptied too often"-- which I guess is the size issue.

"Adorable, somewhat overpriced and too narrow" 2010-02-06
By Margaret Morris
I like the bright red "fire-plug" quality! It serves its purpose, but has to be dumped several times per week (which is a hassle in the winter!). I did not purchase the liner bags - but I find it helpful to trim a brown lunch sack to fit. I have seen the white version at World Market for half this price.
